MEC Foundation was formed at 2002 aiming to bring late scholar Prof. Dr. Mahmud Es’ad Cosan’s ideas alive and to fulfill his projects. At the same time MEC Foundation is undertaking a variety of other projects to assist our needy fellows, stand beside them through the hardships and to be a role model for solidarity.
MEC Foundation has started its first international Qurban organizations last year as Prof. Dr. Mahmud Es’ad Cosan once said, “..Visit your Indonesian brothers and establish a good relationship with them, they need you materially and spiritually” and indicated the urgency for us to bond with our Indonesian brothers.
INDONESIA
Indonesia is situated in the Southeast Asia, in an area where volcanos erupt, tsunamis take place and frequent earthquakes deprive the daily life for the locals. Indonesia is made up of 17,508 islands each one having its own sub-culture. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world with the %87 of the 245 million being Muslims. Yet, the current political and economical conditions prevent them from practicing Islam freely. They are also under the influence and threat of wide spread missionary activity.
QURBANS and DISTRIBUTION
The slaughtering and packaging phase of the organization was carried out in Dubbo, Australia on the 21 December 2007 in one of the leading abattoirs in the country with the capacity to export halal meat to many countries. MEC Foundation staff was meticulous in regards to hygiene, quality and observance of standards throughout the Qurban organisation. The Qurbans were divided into eight pieces, each piece was packaged separately. From a total of 7,000 Qurbans, 56,000 packs were prepared. The meat has shipped to Indonesia on the 6th of January and has arrived there at the beginning of February.
CONSOLIDATING OUR SOLIDARITY
As we did last year, we have once again worked together with YDSF, a leading Indonesian charitable foundation. This was enabled us to further our relationship. We have also worked with some city and town councils as well some mukhtars and Imams. Distribution was carried out from predefined locations, under the supervision of local Imams, who has prepared the lists of the people in need. As the meats were handed outi it was a worthwhile to witness the remarkable smiles of our fellows, who can mostly afford to eat meat once a year.
DISTRIBUTION ON THE JAVA ISLAND
The distribution covered the Java Island that makes up the %80 of the wider population and successfully completed on 56 days. Our slogan was “Remember God” as we did intend to convey a very valuable message.
47 CITIES, 349 DISTRIBUTION POINTS AND 56 DAYS
Without relying on any other parties, making sure that every single package is hand delivered, the MEC Foundation staff have remained on the spot to assure the organization is successfully completed. This year, 52,864 families were reached in 47 cities and 349 distribution points.
We have already started working for the next year’s Qurban organisation and we are looking forward to undertake new projects on larger scales. With the support of our charitable contributors, we are willing to provide all sorts of assistance to our Indonesian fellows.
