M.E.C. Foundation Completes 1430/2009 Qurban Organization

Our foundation has successfully accomplished another qurban organization. In the fourth qurban organization which has been carried out with consciousness, cognition and in a manner appropriate to “qurban”, meats have been delivered to their “rightful owners” with the same sensibility shown in previous years.

Our, Mahmud Es’ad Coşan Foundation founded in Australia, have completed the fourth qurban organization. Our 1430/2009 sacrificial slaughter project which has provided an opportunity for muslims who want to fulfill their qurban ritual easily and in the right manner, has been well appreciated by all.

From acceptance of “Wakalah” to selection of animals to be sacrificed, their slaughtering, storage of meat, their delivery to people in need and process of informing the owners of the “Wakalah” after slaughtering are all accomplished diligently and in a manner which suits to the essence of sacrifice. While the organization was guided by our foundation, the distribution of qurban meat was carried out by our Server Foundation of Indonesia. During all stages of the organization, from selection of animals for sacrifice to slaughtering process, packaging of meat and their delivery to target regions, special attention was paid to hygiene, technology, communication and attitude as well as religious sensitivity.

An organization based on fraternity and sharing

In our project, recipients of aid were regarded as "brothers and sisters" and the act of donation was regarded as "sharing".

The message of our project was "Sharing with Brothers/Berbagi Untuk Sahabat". Adopting our beloved Prophet’s (pbuh) advice of  “not letting know the left hand of what gives the right hand", we acted with the principle of  "Sharing and helping for nothing but to seek Allah Almighty’s pleasure without expecting anything (even a thank-you) and trying to spread the love of Allah Almighty.”

We paid importance to the immediate delivery of qurban meats to most needy people. As soon as the slaughtering was completed in Australia, meats were dispatched and delivered to a total of 23 distribution points in cities of Indonesia, namely Yogyakarta, Bantul, Trimulyo Blitar, Ngaglik, Bogor and Jakarta.

With the help of this organization, thousands of people from all around the world who live far away from each other and don't have an opportunity of "knowing" each other otherwise developed ties of friendship and sense of fraternity.

What are paid attentions to during distribution?

Prior to distribution, the needy people were designated with the cooperation of local representatives and people. The priority was given to those who possibly would not eat any meat even once a year. Without any prejudice, all needy people in the region benefited from qurban, which is an occasion of testing and demonstration of total submission of the servants to their Lord.

Attention was paid to ensure that distribution would cover as wide a region as possible. Rural areas and far most regions where no qurban meats had ever reached before were visited.

Qurban meats were not delivered to any institution or regional authority. A team of 150 foundation volunteers participated in the organization the cost of which was fully paid by MEC Foundation. Meats were delivered to the needy people from first hand.  A group of about 20 media members followed the activities which were widely covered by Indonesian TVs and newspapers

Attitude of Indonesians

Sacrifical meat deliveries were met by local people with great interest, appreciation and affection. This interest was largely because of careful attention paid to humanitarian sensitivities, quality, care and graceful behaviors during the distribution.

These aids, since most of them are from Turkey, aroused feelings of affection which date back to Ottoman Empire and became an occasion for experience of emotional moments.

Local authorities as well as the administrators of the Sultan of the province Yogyakarta, center of the activities of distribution, attended the activities personally and followed the developments.  They appreciated the size of the organization and the sensitive manner in presenting the services. They requested that their special salutes, affection, thanks and prays are conveyed to those who have contributed.

A message from Turkey…

Writings of a father from Turkey were quite thought provoking. Some headlines from that message:  “I don’t know where Indonesia is. I know its name, I hear its name, but can I make an analytical assessment? No. Can I go there? I cannot say no because I believe in destiny, but it is hard to come true.

I have two sons. One of them has four months left to reach 4, the other one was born four days after Feast of Qurban. I care about that we have nice stories and lovely memories of Qurban. In other words, I want my sons have their own memories of Qurban, when they become old enough to understand what Qurban is. Here, Charitable Foundation of MEC has become a great opportunity for me. It opened the door to concepts, values, geographies, names and memories that I will whisper to my sons. Last year, I whispered my two and a half year old son where his sacrifice was slaughtered, why it was slaughtered, to whom it relieved, by whose hands it became true. Although, consequtive 'why, why, why' questions overwhelmed me a lot...Unspeakable feelings arose both among ourselves and between people of unknown geographies and us. Even if we don't know them, don't see them or  don't hear them... This year I whispered my words to the feelings of my smallest son. Because he was going to meet this world right after the Feast.

In short, your organization simplified my work, reduced my burden, enriched both my and my sons' world. If we make it look like articulatory of Yunus, 'we were far away, became close, we were ignorant, we became knowing, we were strangers, we became acquainted.' What else  can I say?

May all our works for our Rabb's compliance go increasing...
